UPDATE: My Saturday appointment to talk to Speaker Pelosi is drawing near. I’ve been combing DailyKos, Facebook and Twitter in search of your questions. It’s important to me that I represent my home community of Jack and Jill Politics well. I urge you please to leave any questions you’d like me to ask this powerful person who’s third in line to lead our country (if anything happened to the President and Vice President) in the comments below. What do you want to know about the mid-term elections, national security, healthcare, financial reform, national foreclosures and unemployment, global warming, etc? What do you think should be the top priorities in the types of questions I ask? Looking forward to your insights. I know how smart you are…
Fill up this comment box! It’s important to show our representatives that black folks (and those who love them) are neither passive nor apathetic but are actively watching, asking questions and participating in democracy. For now through Friday, I’m going to stick this to the top of the page so that it’s easy to find. Thanks!
It’s an honor to be moderating a panel with the Speaker of the House who happens to be one of the most powerful women in America. It’s extra-special for me since Nancy Pelosi and I are both now from the same town: the San Francisco Bay Area. Here’s the deets from my friends at Netroots Nation (where I’m also a member of the Board of Directors):
Each year, we aim to provide opportunities for you to have a conversation with our country’s top leaders. Two years ago, Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined us in Austin, and we’re thrilled to announce that she’ll again join us in Las Vegas for a conversation with you.
This won’t be a typical keynote speech. This is a chance for you to have a conversation with one of the most powerful leaders in our country.
Speaker Pelosi will join us for an interactive Ask the Speaker session moderated by Cheryl Contee of Jack and Jill Politics. Click on the headline in this post to learn how to submit a question.
In the next week and a half, Cheryl will gather your questions via Twitter, Facebook and from blog comment threads.
Here’s how to submit a question for Speaker Nancy Pelosi:
- Click here to submit a question via a note on the Netroots Nation Facebook page.
- Post your question on twitter, just include the hashtag #NN10Pelosi
- And keep your eyes tuned to Jack and Jill Politics where Cheryl will be posting a diary in the coming days to solicit questions
The Ask the Speaker session is scheduled for Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

I hope you’ll consider coming to Netroots Nation this year. It’s history making each year. Here’s what Bill in Portland over at DKos and I’ve said in the past about the power of this gathering:
“Netroots Nation is where the next bright stars of politics can be found and where the power players of right now are headed. It’s a no-brainer, can’t-miss, can’t-wait event that’s highly recommended if you are actively interested in public affairs and/or technology. Netroots Nation is one of the pre-eminent places to get insight into how the smartest Web 2.0 wizards and those who are watching them are shaping the future today.” — Cheryl Contee aka Jill at Jack and Jill Politics
“It’s like a political rally, a think tank retreat and a non-stop party with your best friends all rolled into one. It’s a celebration of the past achievements and future goals of the ever-expanding Netroots. It’s an event where progressive leaders and candidates come to hear, in person, what you have to say. You’ll leave the convention deliriously proud of how far we’ve come…and where we’re headed.” — Bill Harnsberger aka Bill in Portland Maine, Daily Kos
I’m really eager to ensure that I carry your questions — as many as I can — to the Speaker to hear how she plans to address your concerns about Congress’ role in ensuring the future of our country is a brighter one. What do you want to know more about, from the Speaker to you? Please leave them in the comments or tweet at me @ch3ryl using the hashtag #NN10Pelosi. I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
